The zero-bezel phone that turned heads at IFA Berlin 2026 has a surprisingly ordinary heart. When GSMArena took Tecno’s bezel-less concept back to its office for a longer look, published on September 14, 2026, the handset gave itself away in the settings menu: under About phone it identifies itself as a Camon Slim. That makes sense, because the concept is built on Tecno’s Camon Slim 5G and reports the same base hardware.
Tecno showed the device at the IFA ShowStoppers 2026 event at Berlin Messe on September 3, 2026, and the pitch was simple: a display with 0mm borders instead of the thin black frame every other phone still has. The longer session filled in how that trick is done, and what it costs.

Getting there meant turning the usual assembly process upside down. According to GSMArena’s IFA hands-on, the screen module goes in from the back, and a custom hot-melt adhesive holds things together on the front. Tecno also had to rework touch sensitivity and interface elements, since there is no longer any border to rest a finger on.
Same name, different body
Put the concept next to the retail Camon Slim 5G, and the family resemblance is clear, but so are the compromises. The concept is thicker than the production phone, which is 6.39mm thin, because the dual-layer glass and the internal wrap-around need room. It is also a bit shorter, and, of course, its bezels are far thinner. The illusion isn’t flawless either: the IFA hands-on noted black bars that remain visible along the bottom edges.
A proof of concept, not a product
Nobody should start saving up for this one. The phone is not retail-ready and probably will never reach stores. GSMArena described it as mostly functional, but setting it up for the first time was a real struggle, and the unit later reset itself at random, forcing a second trip through the setup wizard. The SIM tray is purely cosmetic, as the phone has no SIM slot at all.
That fits what a concept phone is supposed to be: an engineering exercise that shows what a manufacturer can do before it has to make it work at scale and at a price. Tecno itself says the ideas behind the bezel-less design will pave the way for future flagship innovations. For anyone who remembers the original Xiaomi Mi Mix, it is also a pleasant flashback to the days when phone makers competed over who could make the frame vanish. The Camon Slim 5G under the glass already offers 8GB of RAM, 45W wired charging and HiOS 16 based on Android 16, so the hardware underneath is anything but exotic. The only thing out of the ordinary is the screen on top.
