Almost exactly a year after it vanished from the schedule, The Savant has a new place on the Apple TV calendar. According to Variety, as cited by 9to5Mac on September 20, 2026, Apple has rescheduled the Jessica Chastain-led thriller for spring 2027. The exact dates are still being finalized. The aim is for all episodes to air before the May 31, 2027 cutoff for Emmy eligibility.
That is a long way from where things stood in September 2025. The series was due to premiere on September 26, 2025. Three days before that, Apple pulled it from the schedule. The move came two weeks after the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk. Apple never explained the decision publicly and only promised the show would be released “at a later date”.
Why would a TV drama get caught up in the news cycle? The premise hits close to it. Chastain plays Jodi Goodwin, an undercover investigator known as “The Savant”. She infiltrates online hate groups to stop domestic extremists before they act. Reports on the delay pointed to the storyline about preventing extremist attacks and to some of its imagery, including sniper attacks. That material was considered potentially triggering so soon after the shooting.
Chastain, who is also an executive producer, did not hide her disagreement. On September 24, 2025, she said she was “not aligned on the decision to pause the release”. She still works closely with Apple, with more projects in the pipeline. They include The Dealer with Adam Driver and The Off Weeks with Ben Stiller.

Whether a story about hunting extremists online feels any less charged in 2027 is another question. Either way, Apple has now committed to a release window.
