Samsung One UI 9.5. Buttery animations surface in early leaked builds

Samsung’s software skin isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind when you think ‘silky smooth,’ but early looks at One UI 9.5 are trying hard to change that reputation. Fresh screenshots and video clips have surfaced showing the interface in motion, and the standout talking point is how the app open and close animations behave.

Leaker Fahad Ali Javed, who first shared images on August 13, returned with more footage and a blunt verdict: the animations across the UI are “ridiculously smooth (by Samsung’s standards).” His caveat is worth repeating — this is still only the second internal build, and the fluidity he’s praising is entirely out of the box, with no HomeUp tweaks or third-party modules involved.

Under the hood, One UI 9.5 rides on Android 17, which carries the internal codename “CinnamonBun.” The visual direction leans into a glass-inspired aesthetic, with subtle drop shadows and frosted, translucent elements layered throughout the interface. It’s a look that pairs nicely with animations that don’t stutter — the two go hand in hand.

The clearest redesign so far lands in the Phone app. Search and controls have been relocated to a floating bottom navigation bar, putting the most-used actions within easier thumb reach rather than stranding them up top. It’s a small ergonomic shift, but the kind that adds up over dozens of daily interactions.

There’s also a genuinely useful new feature in the mix: native App Lock. Rather than leaning on Secure Folder workarounds or manufacturer add-ons, Samsung is baking per-app locking directly into the system, letting you gate sensitive apps behind authentication without extra setup gymnastics.

A few things to keep in mind as these clips make the rounds:

  • This is an internal test build, not a finished product — animation timing, transitions and polish can all change before release.
  • The glass redesign and frosted elements are early implementations, so the final look may shift.
  • Nothing here is officially confirmed by Samsung; it all stems from leaked material.

As for when any of this reaches actual phones, the official debut of One UI 9.5 is expected around April or May 2027. That’s a long runway, which is exactly why a second internal build already feeling this fluid is encouraging — it suggests Samsung has plenty of time to refine an interface that, on the evidence so far, is already pleasant to watch in motion.

Samsung’s skins have often been criticized for feeling heavy or over-animated, so an early emphasis on smoothness is a smart signal to send. Whether that holiday of buttery transitions survives the journey from internal build to public release is the open question — but the starting point looks promising.
