Avec Never Forget Anything. The email app that plays personal assistant
SHARE

Everyone has that email — the one with a deadline buried in paragraph three that you swear you’ll circle back to, right before it vanishes under a flood of newsletters. Avec’s answer is a feature it calls Never Forget Anything, and it does exactly what the name promises.

Here’s the mechanic: swipe left on a message, and Avec scans it for a due date. Instead of snoozing the email to a time you have to pick yourself, the app figures out when the thing actually matters and resurfaces the message on the relevant day. No manual reminders, no calendar juggling, no setup — the deadline detection happens automatically.

It’s a neat inversion of the usual inbox workflow. Rather than you managing the email, the email quietly manages itself and reappears at the moment it’s useful. For anyone who treats their inbox as a to-do list held together by sheer willpower, that’s a genuinely appealing pitch.

The feature was announced on August 19, 2026, and it’s baked into the Avec email app built by Jonathan Unikowski. The app is a free download on iOS, with a Pro tier available in-app for those who want more. If you’re the type who lives out of your email client, the paid step-up is where the deeper features tend to live.

A few caveats worth knowing before you go looking for it:

  • iOS only — you’ll need iOS 16.0 or later to run it.
  • Gmail only — other providers aren’t in the mix here.
  • Geography matters — the feature is unsupported outside the US and Canada.

There’s one open question that Avec, a startup that has raised $8.4mn, hasn’t answered: where exactly does the scanning happen? An email app reading your messages to extract dates is doing something inherently sensitive, and the company hasn’t published detail on whether that parsing takes place on your device or somewhere on a server. That’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s the sort of thing privacy-minded users will want spelled out before handing over inbox access.

The broader trend is hard to miss. AI features are creeping into every corner of the apps we already use, and email — a format that’s stubbornly resisted reinvention for decades — is a natural target. Most attempts amount to summarizing threads or drafting replies. Avec’s angle is narrower and, arguably, more practical: it’s not trying to write your emails for you, just making sure the important ones don’t slip through the cracks.

Whether that’s worth swapping your default mail app for is a personal call, but the core idea is sound. If the on-device-versus-cloud picture gets clearer, and if support expands beyond Gmail and North America, Avec could turn a small quality-of-life trick into a reason to switch.
