AWOL Vision Aetherion Max. A triple-laser beast built for the 200-inch dream

Ultra-short-throw projectors have been creeping toward genuine home-cinema territory for years, but the AWOL Vision Aetherion Max feels like a proper leap. Unveiled at CES 2026 and now shipping as of July 2026, it pairs a triple-laser optical engine with a feature list that reads like a wish-list for both film buffs and console gamers.

Start with the light. The Aetherion Max delivers 3,300 ISO lumens, enough punch to fill a screen of up to 200 inches at 4K resolution without collapsing into a washed-out haze the moment someone opens the blinds. Its RGB triple-laser setup covers a claimed 110% of the Rec.2020 color space — a figure that puts it comfortably ahead of the LED and single-laser crowd, and translates to deeper, more saturated color across the board.

Contrast is handled with a 6,000:1 native contrast ratio that AWOL says can be boosted to a striking 60,000:1. On paper that’s the difference between merely watchable dark scenes and shadows with actual depth. Universal HDR support means you won’t be fussing with which format your source spits out, and Dolby Vision is along for the ride.

Sharpness gets its own headline feature. AWOL’s PixelLock technology promises pixel-level precision with no pixel drift or color fringing — the kind of edge-softening that can quietly sabotage a big projected image. If it works as advertised, text and fine detail should hold together even at the extreme end of that 200-inch range.

Then comes the part that will make gamers sit up:

  • 240Hz refresh rate — rare air for a projector
  • 1 millisecond input lag
  • Dolby Vision Gaming support
  • Three HDMI 2.1 ports to feed it all

That trio of specs matters. A 240Hz refresh rate and single-millisecond lag mean the Aetherion Max isn’t just a movie machine that grudgingly tolerates a console — it’s built to keep pace with high-frame-rate PC and next-gen console play at cinema scale, without the smeary latency that usually rules out projectors for competitive gaming.

The triple HDMI 2.1 loadout is a quietly practical touch too, letting you park a console, a PC and a streaming box permanently without constantly swapping cables or leaning on a receiver.

All of this lands at US$4,499. That’s not pocket change, but for a device aiming to replace a large TV — and outgrow it, at up to 200 inches — the pricing sits within reach of the premium home-theater buyer rather than the niche enthusiast stratosphere.

What makes the Aetherion Max interesting isn’t any single figure, but how few compromises it seems to demand. Bright enough for daytime, colorful enough for HDR cinema, and fast enough for serious gaming, it’s chasing the rare projector that doesn’t force you to pick a lane.
