ZTE Blade A35e. A budget phone with a RAM identity crisis

Two years after the ZTE Blade A35 first hit the shelves, its junior sibling has finally surfaced on ZTE’s official Pakistani website — and it arrives wrapped in a fog of half-answered questions. The Blade A35e was actually spotted in a certification listing back in 2024, but the model that has now materialized looks nothing like that earlier ghost.

ZTE, in a move that feels almost deliberately coy, hasn’t published a complete spec sheet. Instead we get a scattering of confirmed details, and one specification that raises more eyebrows than answers.

Here’s what the company is actually willing to commit to:

  • Display: a 6.52-inch screen
  • Camera: an 8MP main shooter
  • Storage: 64GB onboard
  • Battery: a 5,000 mAh cell
  • Chipset: an unnamed 1.6GHz octa-core processor, described only as “powerful”

That last one is a classic budget-phone maneuver — call it octa-core, quote the clock speed, and quietly skip the part where you’d actually name the silicon. Buyers at this tier rarely get a datasheet’s worth of transparency, but it’s still a little cheeky.

The real head-scratcher, though, is the RAM. ZTE lists the Blade A35e in two configurations: one badged as “6(2+4)GB Dynamic RAM” and another as “4(2+2)GB Dynamic RAM”. Decode that and you land at 2GB of physical memory in the cheaper model and 2GB in the pricier one too, each padded out with virtual RAM borrowed from storage. In other words, the headline numbers of 6GB and 4GB are marketing arithmetic rather than a true reflection of the hardware inside.

Dynamic or virtual RAM isn’t inherently a bad thing — swapping storage in as overflow memory can smooth out multitasking on entry-level devices. But dressing 2GB of real RAM up as “6GB” is exactly the kind of labeling that leaves shoppers squinting at the fine print.

On the plus side, the fundamentals here are reasonable for the segment. That 5,000 mAh battery paired with a modest 6.52-inch panel and a frugal octa-core chip should translate into genuinely long stamina between charges, and 64GB of storage is respectable for a phone at this end of the market.

Pricing starts from US$70, which slots the Blade A35e squarely into ultra-budget territory. At that figure, nobody is expecting flagship polish — but a little more honesty about the memory situation wouldn’t have gone amiss. As it stands, the Blade A35e is a perfectly serviceable cheap phone wearing a spec sheet that works a bit too hard to impress.
